About Waqfuel
Transforming waste cooking oil into sustainable waqf impact
Our History
Waqfuel was founded in 2023 with a vision to address two critical challenges facing Indonesian communities: environmental pollution from improper used cooking oil (UCO) disposal and the lack of sustainable income opportunities for local communities.
Our journey began when our founders witnessed firsthand how used cooking oil was being improperly disposed of in residential areas, causing severe environmental damage to water systems and soil. At the same time, they recognized the untapped potential of Islamic waqf principles to create lasting social impact.
By combining environmental stewardship with Islamic social finance, Waqfuel was born as Indonesia's first digital waqf platform focused on UCO collection and productive waqf management.
Why Waqfuel?
Environmental Challenge
Indonesia produces over 3 million liters of used cooking oil daily. Most of this is improperly disposed of, contaminating water sources and harming ecosystems. One liter of UCO can pollute up to 1 million liters of water.
Economic Opportunity
UCO has significant economic value when properly collected and processed. It can be converted into biodiesel and other products, creating a circular economy that benefits both the environment and local communities.
Social Impact
Many Indonesian communities lack access to sustainable income opportunities. By engaging Relawan (volunteers) in UCO collection, we create dignified work while addressing environmental issues.
Waqf Innovation
Traditional waqf focuses on property and cash. We innovate by using waqf principles to fund productive activities, ensuring perpetual benefits for communities through sustainable business models.
Our Business Focus
UCO Collection Network
Building a comprehensive network of Relawan volunteers across Jakarta and beyond to collect used cooking oil from households, restaurants, and food vendors.
Productive Waqf Management
Converting collected UCO into revenue through partnerships with biodiesel producers and other industries, with proceeds managed as productive waqf assets.
MSME Empowerment
Using waqf proceeds to fund and support Relawan-owned MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises), creating sustainable livelihoods and economic independence.
Community Education
Raising awareness about proper UCO disposal, environmental protection, and Islamic social finance through digital platforms and community engagement.
